In June 2026, my research project secured competitive funding through the Ocean Action Grant‑Canada Service Corps to advance my community‑centred investigative research initiative.
Project Objective
I conducted investigative research to assess contamination levels of Escherichia coli, heavy metals, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons throughout False Creek, benchmarking the results against provincial and federal water‑quality standards. This work further examined the inequitable pollution burdens placed on shoreline‑dwelling communities and the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil‑Waututh Nations.
Research Methods
Conducted original on‑site field sampling and spatial mapping to document pollution distribution across the inlet; performed comparative analysis of contaminant readings against official regulatory thresholds; and reviewed established remediation case studies, including Hamilton Harbor and Eagle Harbor.
Advocacy & Project Deliverables
‑ Designed an accessible citizen‑science testing toolkit to support community‑led, grassroots water‑quality monitoring
‑ Launched a dedicated digital platform enabling community submissions and transparent public sharing of water‑monitoring datasets
‑ Developed curated informational pamphlet resources, paired with broad‑reach digital outreach campaigns to raise public environmental awareness
‑ Spearheaded grassroots advocacy by drafting and circulating an official petition calling for strengthened pollution surveillance at the municipal and provincial levels
